RECORDING 3
DATE/TIME: 21/july/2007 (10.30 a.m.) - IDENTIFICATION AND BEHAVIOUR: 2 birds are perched on a branch of a dead tree near the banks of an artificial pond. recording 3 (300 KB) - * - spectrogram 3 (35 KB)
RECORDING 4
DATE/TIME: 20/august/2007 (11 a.m.) - IDENTIFICATION AND BEHAVIOUR: About 25 birds are perched on a telephone wire and on two oaks at the border of a wood. They call almost continuously. Probably they are a migrating flock which makes a brief stop. - POSITION: Poderone near Magliano in Toscana, LAT.N 42°36'/LONG.E 11°17' - ALTITUDE: +130 m. - VOCALIZATION TYPE: contact calls uttered when perched. - SEX/AGE: unknown - COMMENT: Note the similarity of most calls with call of Recording 1 above (flight call). At the end of the recording there is a long bubbling call, quite uncommon. - MIC: (P)
recording 4 (312 KB) - * - spectrogram 4 (48 KB)
RECORDING 5
DATE/TIME: 1/september/2006 (1 p.m.) - IDENTIFICATION AND BEHAVIOUR: Four birds are perched on a telephone wire and call several times. - POSITION: Poderone near Magliano in Toscana, LAT.N 42°36'/LONG.E 11°17' - ALTITUDE: +130 m. - VOCALIZATION TYPE: 2 different contact calls when perched. - SEX/AGE: unknown - COMMENT: One call (circled red in the spectrograms) is similar to the last one showed in Recording 3 above (check the last spectrogram of Recording 3), while the second call is the commonest one uttered when perched and in flight (see Recording 1). - MIC: (A)
recording 5 (192 KB) - * - spectrogram 5 (40 KB)
RECORDING 6
DATE/TIME: 8/september/2006 (12 a.m.) - IDENTIFICATION AND BEHAVIOUR: A small flock is flying high over a cultivated land. These are migrating birds directed toward South - POSITION: Poderone near Magliano in Toscana, LAT.N 42°36'/LONG.E 11°17' - ALTITUDE: +130 m. - VOCALIZATION TYPE: contact call in flight / migratory call. - SEX/AGE: unknown - COMMENT: This is the commonest and most used call (check Recording 1). Its use during migratory flight seems very important: the birds call almost continuously and this behaviour is probably crucial for mantaining the contact between members of the flock, given the habit of bee-eaters to fly very high and in sparse groups during migration. - MIC: (A)
recording 6 (77 KB) - * - spectrogram 6 (12 KB)
