DATE/TIME: 19/june/2005 (11 a.m.) - IDENTIFICATION AND BEHAVIOUR: The bird is perched on the top of a tall tree near Mount Labbro. Rocky zone with rough ground, scattered bushes and trees. - POSITION: Mount Labbro, LAT. N. 42 48'/ LONG. E 11 33' - ALTITUDE: +1100 m. - VOCALIZATION TYPE: full song - SEX/AGE: adult male - COMMENT: Time interval between phrases has been reduced in the audio sample (background: woodlark). This male seems singing in competition with a neighbour cirl bunting (see 2nd spectrogram). It sings two different phrase types in this song bout. The second type is sung in two slightly different ways: compare the 1st and 3rd spectrograms and note that they are composed by respectively 9 and 10 syllables. Mean phrase duration = 1.50 s (S.D.=0.09; n=9). Mean interval between phrases: 10.7 s (S.D.=3.73; n=7). - MIC: (A)

Rocky zone with rough ground and scattered bushes. - POSITION: Mount Buceto near Mount Labbro, LAT. N. 42 48'/ LONG. E 11 33' - ALTITUDE: +1000 m. - VOCALIZATION TYPE: full song. - SEX/AGE: adult male - COMMENT: Also this male sings two different phrase types (note: both are different from those of Recording 1). Time interval between phrases has been reduced in the spectrogram, but not in the audio sample. The ortolan buntings of Mount Labbro are a small residual population of less than 10 pairs. Mean phrase duration: 1.46 s (S.D.=0.17; n=11). Mean interval between phrases: 2.82 s (S.D.=1.08; n=7). - MIC: (A)

DATE/TIME: 4/may/2014 (6 p.m.) - IDENTIFICATION AND BEHAVIOUR: The bird is perched (in sight) on the top of a small bush in a steppic hill surrounded by low land with cultivated fields and pastures. - POSITION: Near Izvoarele, Tulcea district, Romania, LAT.N 45°02'/LONG.E 28°35' - ALTITUDE: +150 m. - VOCALIZATION TYPE: full song. - SEX/AGE: adult male - COMMENT: Note the monotonous repetition of only one phrase type. DATE/TIME: 4/may/2014 (6.45 p.m.) - IDENTIFICATION AND BEHAVIOUR: Same place as above, but a different bird perched (in sight) on the top of a small tree. - POSITION: Near Izvoarele, Tulcea district, Romania, LAT.N 45°02'/LONG.E 28°35' - ALTITUDE: +150 m. - VOCALIZATION TYPE: full song. - SEX/AGE: adult male - COMMENT: This bird sings three different phrase types (see spectrograms). Two types are shared with the neighbouring bird (see previous recordings). Background: sheep bells and lamb bleats. There is a cut of 20 seconds in the recording (see spectrograms). - MIC: (P)
