Caprimulgus europaeus

RECORDING 1
DATE/TIME: 11/june/2003 (10.30 p.m.) - IDENTIFICATION AND BEHAVIOUR: the nightjar is flying in an oak wood. - POSITION: Poderone near Magliano in Toscana, LAT.N 42°36'/LONG.E 11°17'- ALTITUDE: +130 m. - VOCALIZATION TYPE: typical territorial call. - SEX/AGE: probably adult male. - COMMENT: The audio sample and relative spectrograms show a small fragment of one uninterrupted vocalization lasting more than 2 minutes charachterized by tremolo with about 27/29 units per second. Each call bout may consist of only one uninterrupted phrase lasting several minutes or of some shorter phrases lasting 20/60 seconds. The phases with lower pitched and faster tremolo (see blue arrows in spectrograms) possibly are due to change of breathing pattern with inhalation. Duration of these lower pitched phases: mean 0,62 sec. (S. D. 0,25; range 0,27/1,03; n=25). Interval between lower pitched phases: mean 3,76 sec. (S. D. 2,06; range 1/9,27; n=25). Data from 3 different birds. - MIC: (U)
